How to Write Good Post Titles

Good post titles are very important to capture readers. Do it right you will capture readers. Do it wrong you will drive away your visitors. Your headline should clearly deliver the benefits for your readers from reading your posts. The main purpose of a post title is to get potential readers to click and read what you have to say.

Did you know that your post titles appear in search engine, in your RSS feeds, in Social Media sites that load and display RSS feeds (e.g. entrepreneurs-connect">Entrepreneurs Connect), and in your backlinks? A lot of times the only things people see are your post titles, which is the main reason why it is essential to write professional and appealing titles.

Types of post titles

  • How-to Posts - This is perhaps the most direct way to communicate benefits to your visitors. People like to know how to do certain things.
  • Debates - People are also interested on seeing different opinions on popular topics. When you do these types of posts, make sure you are ready to take on all the different kinds of reactions from your readers.
  • Questions - Some people are willing to share their thoughts in public. When people see a question they continue to read because they have the answer, or simply because they are also seeking for the answer to the same question.
  • Strong statements - Sometimes people are simply interested to read about your opinions on things. Sound strong when you make a statement, and make sure you are able to back it up.

Steps to write a good post title

  • Come up with a list of possible post titles. Don't panic, choose the best one.
  • Use as much keywords as possible. Post titles are often linked to the permanent link (sometimes referred to as "permalinks") of your blog post. Keyword targeted URLs are always better for search engines.
  • Use power words such as "free", "secret", "discover"...etc.
  • Try to personalize your post titles. Make it sound like as if you are speaking it out loud right in front of your viewer.
