Structured Writing

Blogging is all about writing quality articles. Articles that deliver the messages that you want to deliver, quickly and efficiently. Keeping up with adding quality content frequently can be quite frustrating. Sometimes you have a great idea. you login to your blog and start writing. But you just end up staring at your monitor without any ideas on where to start. Sometimes when you start writing, and when you finish, you realize that one sentence is simply not enough. You need structured writing.

Expand your idea into point forms

So you've come up with a great idea and have decided what post title to use. You need to expand that idea into different parts. For example, if you suddenly have an urge to write about catching sharks, you can perhaps expand that idea into something like this:

  • What kind of sharks are you referring to and where are good places to catch them
  • What kind of baits do you use to catch the sharks
  • How to make the baits yourself
  • What kind of fishing rod do you recommend to use catch these sharks
  • ...etc, you get the idea

Write a good introduction

Introduce the topic to your readers. Tell them explicitly on what they will find out after reading the entire article. A good introduction should give readers an idea of what the rest of the writing will say and should provide a reason for readers to keep reading. It is often quite useful to provide some history, background, or statistics of the topic you're writing about.

What to write in the content

Now go through and write about the list that you've expanded from your topic. Expand them further more and write about each of them in paragraphs.

Write a good conclusion

For bloggers, conclusion usually contains a "call to action". Tell your visitors explicitly on what they should do and what you want them to achieve.

Other types of articles

The types of articles below are proven to have the ability to bring a lot of attention:

  • How-To(s) - This kind of articles teaches visitors how to do something. People will appreciate the educational values of these articles
  • Lists - These articles are excellent resources for your visitors.
  • Questions and Answers - When someone asks you a question, it is good to be transparent by answering it in the public. Who knows if someone else also wanted to ask you the same question?
  • Reviews and Interviews - People like to be interviewed, and people like to read interviews and reviews, simply because they are curious about the things being reviewed on, or the people you've interviewed.

What if I'm out of idea of what to write?

  • Try to read on other blogs related to your niche. Reading often sparks inspiration.
  • Invite other bloggers to write guest posts on your blog. This is, sometimes, a good idea to increase the dynamics of your blog content. People often require their name, website, and short bio to be included along with their guest post, so make sure that you select your guest bloggers carefully because by placing their posts on your blog, you are effectively telling your readers that "hey, I highly recommend this guy. I believe he has something good to share, check out his website!"
